Welcome To The East Hants Skating Club Website |
| Programs Equipment and SafetyAll Canskate participants MUST wear a CSA approved hockey or skating helmet. No bike helmets will be accepted! Mittens or gloves must also be worn on the ice. Please use the designated dressing rooms to get ready. In order to ensure skaters enjoy and benefit from their lessons, skates should fit properly, provide good ankle support, be tied tightly around the ankle and instep, and be sharpened. Please avoid plastic moulded skates and do not remove picks from figure skates. Speak to a coach as soon as possible if you have any questions regarding equipment. CanSkate is a learn-to-skate program for skaters ages 4 and up. Participants will learn the basics of skating in a fun, group environment and will gradually master forward and backward skating, stopping, turning, jumping, spinning and more. Skaters earn badges as they progress through the Stages. STARSkate Junior Academy is taught in a small group format by professional coaches hired by the club. Skaters are able to complete their Stage 5, 6 and 7 CanSkate badges and begin the Test Program (which includes preliminary dances, skating skills and freestyle). Competitive Skate requires skaters to purchase an ice package from the club and make arrangements with a coach of their choice for private lessons. Skaters get one-on-one instruction from their coach and practice independently for the rest of the time. It is not necessary to have instruction for the entire length of the session. Coaching fees are determined by the coach and billed directly to the skater as per arrangement. | |
